A selection of songs performed by soprano Lucy Crowe and pianist Anna Tilbrook, as part of a series of BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts showcasing the intricacy and beauty of the Baroque era.

The Programme

Magical groves, blushing maidens, sighing lovers … whether in the 17th century or the 20th (and on this side of the channel or the other) music has been the food both of fantasy and of love. The pastoral freshness and delicate sensuality of the English baroque finds a magical echo in the sensuous world of French romantic song, in a recital devoted to the most fragrant – and eternal – of emotions

The Performers

Nothing could be more natural for Lucy Crowe. I’m still seen primarily as a baroque singer, but my heart is with all those romantic tragic heroines she says, and her natural gift for drama is as compelling in recital as it is on the operatic stage. With regular collaborator Anna Tilbrook at the piano, these little love stories will positively glow with tenderness, humour and life.
